Blog / Itsycal Reminders Beta
At long last, Itsycal can show your reminders alongside your events, and you can check them off right from the event list. I’m looking for a few people to try a test build and provide feedback.
What’s new
- Reminders in the event list and calendar. Reminders with a due date show up on their day, from the lists you choose. Each one has a small square in its list’s color, open when incomplete and filled when completed. Reminders without a time are grouped with all-day events; ones with a time sort among your events.
- Check them off. Click a reminder’s square, or right-click it and choose Mark as Completed. ⌘Z undoes it, and ⇧⌘Z redoes it.
- Repeating reminders. Their later occurrences show dimmed on their days, as in Calendar. Only the current one can be checked off.
- Overdue reminders. An overdue reminder’s title is red. When today is selected, an Overdue section at the top shows how many there are. Click the heading to show or hide them. You can turn the section off in Settings.
- Two new settings in Settings > Events:
- Show completed reminders
- Show overdue reminders at the top
- Undo new events. After you create an event, ⌘Z removes it.
Good to know
- It (mostly) follows Calendar. Checking off, undo and repeating reminders work the way they do in Apple’s Calendar app. Two things differ on purpose: overdue titles are red, as in Reminders, and undo keeps the remaining count of a reminder that repeats a set number of times.
- Itsycal doesn’t create, edit or delete reminders. Use the Reminders app for that.
- Only reminders with a due date appear, since Itsycal is a calendar.
- Reminders don’t need calendar access. If you didn’t let Itsycal see your calendars, you can still turn on reminders.
- macOS 27 is required. While macOS 27 is pretty new, macOS 26 has been out for about a year and 27 is basically a bug-fixed version. So hopefully you’ve had time to make peace with Liquid Glass and join (succumb to?) the Dark Side - as I finally have.
How to try it
The test build needs macOS 27.
- Quit Itsycal, download the beta, unzip it, replace the old app in your Applications folder, and open it. It uses your existing settings.
- In Settings > Events, click Show Reminders… and allow access. Itsycal never asks for reminders access on its own.
- Check the reminder lists you want to see. Like calendars, they start unchecked.
To go back, quit the beta and reinstall the current version from the Itsycal page. It ignores the new settings.
